Mr. Sorem's practice focuses on land use and real estate.
Land Use
Mr. Sorem’s land use experience includes representing property owners and business interests in applications for: post acknowledgment comprehensive plan map amendments, zone changes, code amendments, subdivisions, partitions, property line adjustments, conditional use and variance applications, wireless cell tower sitings, Measure 37 vesting applications, and Measure 49 applications.
Real Estate
Mr. Sorem’s real estate transactional experience includes representing property owners and business interests in: commercial, agricultural, and residential sale agreements, deeds, leases, options to purchase, easements, development agreements, and the drafting, recording, and assigning of restrictions, covenants, conditions, and restrictions (CC&Rs).
Appellate
Mr. Sorem’s appellate experience includes representing clients before Marion County Hearings Officer, City of Salem Hearings Officer, Marion County Board of Commissioners, Polk County Board of Commissioners, Marion County Circuit Court, Oregon State Land Use Board of Appeals, Oregon Court of Appeals, and the Oregon Supreme Court.
Representative Clients
Mr. Sorem has represented the following clients: Oregon Home Builder’s Association and National Home Builder’s Association before the Oregon Supreme Court regarding whether certain conditions of approval constituted an unconstitutional exaction. Click here to view the Amicus Brief.
Mr. Sorem represents West Coast Bank, an Oregon state chartered bank for title and land use due diligence, real estate transactions, and other real estate matters.

Education
Mr. Sorem graduated magna cum laude from St. John’s University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He earned his law degree from Willamette University College of Law in 2006, graduating cum laude.
