Practice Areas

Estate Planning

Jeff works with clients on a variety of estate planning techniques, including will and trust plans that provide for management during incapacity and then for spouses, children and others following death. These plans can be drafted to utilize both the federal and state death tax exemptions to minimize estate taxes for the beneficiaries. Jeff also designs trusts that offer continued asset management for children beyond a parent’s passing, such as education trusts or special needs trusts. Plans can also be structured to implement distribution controls or divorce and creditor protection provisions. Revocable living trusts can be drafted to avoid court probate and provide for protection against incapacity while maintaining privacy of the estate. Jeff also works on more complex trust plans, such as dynasty or generation-skipping trusts or irrevocable gifting or insurance trusts for advanced estate tax planning purposes. He also works with business owners and farmers on business succession planning and gifting programs.

Trust and Estate Administration

Jeff works with Trustees, Personal Representatives and Agents and Fiduciaries in administering or counseling on trusts and estates following death or incapacity. This may include representation before the probate court in probate proceedings or working with Trustees to properly value and distribute trust assets. Jeff is experienced in preparing and reviewing complex IRS and state estate tax returns, IRS form 709 Gift Tax returns, and other IRS and state tax forms and documents.
