Saalfeld Griggs hires only those lawyers who have a commitment to excellence and an attention to client service that is compatable with the culture of the firm. To make certain that only the right lawyers are hired, all finalists meet with and are carefully evaluated by all shareholders and associates in the firm. This commitment of time and resources in the hiring process is reflective of the firm's desire to hire only the best and the brightest. Every associate lawyer is hired with the intention that he or she will one day become a shareholder in the firm. Once hired, the firm invests considerable time, money and resources in training and mentoring the associate to help them reach that goal.
Associates at Saalfeld Griggs come from diverse backgrounds. But the common thread among all firm associates is their intelligence, their ability to find practical solutions to complex legal issues, their outgoing and engaging personalities, and their desire to give back to the community through their involvement in community organizations.
Firm associates enjoy unprecedented, direct contact with firm clients early on, as well as ready access to all other lawyers in the firm. Each associate is assigned to two shareholders in the firm, one of which serves as the supervising lawyer within their practice group, and the other of which serves as their mentor, typically from an unrelated practice group. The supervising lawyer and mentor work closely together to integrate the associate into the firm and assist him or her in their progress toward shareholder status. Performance reviews are conducted two times per year.

Saalfeld Griggs views the hiring of law clerks as an important recruiting tool for the firm. Firm lawyers provide law clerks with a variety of interesting and challenging projects, much like that of a first-year associate. Law clerks are encouraged to work with each Practice Group and, if possible, with each lawyer. As associate positions become available, the firm's preference is to hire from among its current group of law clerks.
The firm gives priority consideration to law clerk applicants who are in the top 25 percent of their class and who are active in law review, moot court, and/or other similar honors programs. Law clerk applicants must have excellent research and writing skills and a personality that is consistent with the firm's friendly and collegial environment.
